Wedding Cake with Fresh Flowers
When you are making cakes for a very special occasion like a wedding you need to allow quite a lot of time for making sugar decorations for the cake top. You could decide instead to have a wedding cake with fresh flowers. You can ask the florist to make a really pretty flower display that can be put on top of the wedding cake.
You could try and tie in the flowers on the cake to the same colors and types as the flowers you are using to decorate the reception. Another great thing about wedding cakes with fresh flowers, is that the flowers can be kept as a souvenir. When you order your flower arrangement, it’s very important to tell your florist that the flowers will be used on the cake. This is because some flowers are poisonous like Lily of the Valley, and others are treated with pesticides and so on. When you are getting wedding cakes with fresh flowers, it is a far safer option to go in for edible flowers like carnations, chrysanthemums, dandelions, fuchsias, gardenias, gladiolus, hibiscus, jasmine, lavender, pansies, marigold, lilac, primrose, violet, and so on.
There are many methods of decorating the wedding cake with fresh flowers:
1 – one of the simplest ways is to just spread flower petals all over the cake.
2 – the cake tier can be made of flowers.
3 - keep a bunch of flowers over the topmost tier and keep strings of flowers flowing down to the lower ones.
4 – keep the sides of each tier decorated with flowers. The whole cake should be decorated in the same way.
The way you go about assembling your wedding cake with fresh flowers will depend quite a bit on yor on personal taste and the theme you have chosen for your wedding.
Of course, if fresh flowers, are really not to your taste then you can explore many other options for making flowers to put on your wedding cake. For instance you could use gumpaste as this can be easily shaped like a flower, and it becomes stronger as it dries. You could try marzipan, or fondant icing.
Another option is to use sugared fresh flowers. All you need to do is to paint the flowers with egg whites and then you sprinkle them with icing or finely ground sugar. This will give the flowers a very pretty frosted look.
