Decorating The Wedding Car – What To Expect

Decorating the wedding car is a fun way for the family and friends of the bride and groom to get involved in the wedding.
Traditionally decorating the wedding car is down to the best man (with lots of help!), but often this has resulted in decorated cars that are distasteful to the bride and groom. It’s therefore much more likely that the happy couple themselves will have some input in how their wedding car is to be decorated.
Of course at this stage wedding car needs to be defined, as their are two distinct wedding cars at most weddings. There are the wedding cars that take the groom and his best man to the venue, one to take the bridesmaids, and of course one for the bride and her father. These are usually decorated with tasteful ribbons and can be matched to the wedding decor theme.
You also have the wedding car that is going to be used for the bride and groom to leave their reception and make their way to start their married life – this is the one that can get a little o.t.t. if not supervised closely!
The drive away wedding car will traditionally be decorated with things that make a noise, for instance, beer cans are tied to the back bumper, large ‘just married’ signs can be put on the back window, or in some cases painted on the car widow. This wedding car can be plastered in streamers, ribbons, stickers and basically any type of decoration you can think of.
From a safety point of view, you need to make sure that the drivers view is not obstructed. Also anything that is used to decorate the honeymoon car should be made of material that is easy to clean off without causing damage to the vehicle.
It is really easy to find things to decorate the honeymoon car, and one of the most popular things is liquid chalk – this will not come off with the rain, but can be easily wiped off when no longer needed. Take a look at some craft stores where you will be able to pick up magnets which you can use on the car instead of using stickers. The magnets are easy to remove and they do not do any damage.
Don’t forget to decorate the car aerial so that it is easily visible and will attract lots of attention as the bride and groom drive away.
If it is your wedding, and you are concerned that the grooms friends may go a little overboard with the decorating of your wedding car, then get one of your bridesmaids to be part of the car decorating group, this should ease your mind.
A wedding car tastefully decorated is sure to be one of the great memories of the day
