Get Permission First When It Comes to Church Wedding Decorations

You don’t know how many brides get in trouble because they do not ask permission regarding decorating schemes before they start decorating the church. Each religion is different as are churches, and they come with their own set of rules as to what can and cannot be in their sanctuary.  In addition, churches have to be cognizant of other ceremonies and events that are taking place there as well. Therefore, if you are getting married in a church, always ask what the rules are before putting up any church wedding decorations.

Can you imagine spending a lot of money on flowers and spending the time and effort in decorating each pew with tulle, ribbon and greenery, only to have the church say it isn’t allowed? Yikes! Always discuss your decorating ideas in advance and gain approval first before proceeding.

Once you have permission to use church wedding decorations and you know what you can and cannot do, visit the church a few times at the time when the wedding would be. With the stained glass windows letting in ambient light, you want an idea of how the church would look during your ceremony so you can decide whether candles would be needed or certain lights be kept off.

Ask what events are happening around your ceremony. During certain times of year like Christmas, Mother’s Day, and Easter, the church is already decorated with flowers and greenery that likely cannot be removed and then placed back just for your ceremony. Perhaps you can work the existing decorations into your ceremony. The church would have a better idea on how that would work, so ask them! You might also consider, as a token of your appreciation, leaving a few of your flower arrangements you are using as church wedding decorations to the church.

Knowing what you can and cannot do inside the church will help you shop around for the right flowers, ribbon, candles and more. Be sure to take pictures of the church sanctuary, pews and altar area as they will help you and your florist and other wedding vendors plan your church wedding decorations.
